I wanted to give you a final update fot the baby with very slow wheight
gain I posted about a month ago.

(Short summary: when I first saw her, the baby was baby two months old,
very slow weight gain, very disfunctional suck)

I talked to the mother today - she hand expressed for the last month, fed
EBM and formula with bottle, as baby couldn't latch well. Baby gained
1,600gr this month! She gained only 800gr in the first two months.

This week mom decided to stop expressing milk. She felt it was just too
much - every free minute she would sit and express milk. She has two older
children, aged 3 and 4.5, and she also had to return to work part-time.

I praised her great efforts, assured her that three months of breastmilk is
a lot better than none, and tried to encourage her, as she was very
disappointed with this bf experience. She bf her older kids for more than a
year. She hopes to have another child, with a better bf outcome.

I think that even though this mom didn't bf for long, she did benefit from
the bf counselling. She learned that it wasn't her fault, like some poeple
told her - "you just don't have enough milk", and she knows she did the
best she could, and didn't just quit with the first difficulty.
Sometimes this is also a kind of success.
