This is very important. Lactnet is a tool for sharing and collegial connection.

I am wondering, though , again, about your suggestion to provide books to a
resident's library? Or a physician's office?

My take on this is that if a professional needs to know something, they need
to take the initiative to purchase or  get a hold, somehow, of the
professional resources that they need to learn whatever they need to learn.
I mean, no one buys my latest copies of Ruth Lawrence, Auerbach and Riordan,
etc.

Do professionals expect that others will pay for the latest pediatric texts
as well? What is the difference here?  Why is the onus of responsibility for
learning not placed on each individual when bf is concerned?

I for one, am not interested in purchasing books etc to offices that can
well afford them, and I do not believe that giving people resources that
they are not interested in will *make* them interested.  It just goes in the
"read some day maybe.." pile.

I think that the key is working together, and helping all professionals to
realize that breastfeeding *matters* in many ways, and is worthy of the same
scholarly thought that is devoted to many other subjects . That is not
something we can legislate.

Let's continue to work together.....I appreciate Dr. Hertz' comments, again.
