one of the problems with "just taking out the formula" is that the bags are
often full of coupons for formula and bottles and "helpful" advice and info
about bf that is published by . . . you guessed it, the formula company! also,
the bags themselves often use patterns that are company-owned decorations,
such as peter rabbit, now "owned" by S*m*l*c. how many rabbits do you know
that feed their babies formula?
i just saw a baby yesterday that, although born at home, had the unfortunate
experience of being in the hospital for four hours after birth because of
filling his lungs with meconium. after the lovely experience of having formula
jammed in his mouth by the (all right, i won't say it, i am taking the exam,
too, after all) who said his blood sugar of 28 meant that he HAD to have one
ounce of formula - they gave the father a discharge pack! the bf pack instead
of the formula pack. the difference? the bf pack had only one bottle of
formula, the formula feeders pack had a six pack of formula.
i can't even begin to rant about today's bad story, also involving hospital
persons. it had serious competition, too, as the bad story of the day. it is
so great to be on call.
so no discharge "gifts" anyway. later, every family has thousands of stuffed
animals anyway.
