For breastfeeding mothers, diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is fine (monitor
the infant for possible drowsiness or irritability).
Most of the nonsedating antihistamines should work fine Loratadine
(Claritin) is a good choice because of its minimal excretion into
breastmilk which is unlikely to have an effect on the nursing infant.
If a decongestant is needed, pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) is ok to use as
is tripolidine/pseudoephedrine (Actifed), an antihistamine/decongestant
combination (the mother should drink extra fluids).
