Thanks for the posts on the new ear infection vaccine.
I'd appreciate learning about the costs for administering this vaccine
in your areas: # treatments/office visits required, whether the vaccine
is covered under health plans, costs for the vaccine (by itself as well
as included in the office visit). I believe I read a while back that it
takes 3 shots (but I may be thinking of the rotavirus or RSV vaccines,
similar cases in point).
As we all prepare for World Breastfeeding Week 1998, "Breastfeeding: The
Best Investment", it will be helpful in our promotional/advocacy efforts
to have this kind of information to compare with the costs of
"vaccinating" through breastfeeding. Data like this can help economists
and "bottom-liners" reconsider their money allocations and maybe be
willing to invest in supporting breastfeeding rather than these costly
(and well-marketed) protection strategies.
