A mom who is diagnosed with PAT - Paroxysmal Atrial Tachycardia is experience
bouts of rapid heartbeat, and is wondering if this is related to BF hormones?
NO!
Lets no sacrifice BF on the altar of ignorance, (to quote Dr. Jack Newman)
This mom should get her thyroid checked to make sure that is not the trigger,
she should learn how she can try to "break "or stop the spells by holding her
breath and bearing down or putting her face into ice water.
She should see a cardiologist for a consult. Many people can have they spells
controlled with Lanoxin or Verapamil or Betapace or some other medication. If
they become too frequent they should have an EP study by an electophysilogist.
(This is where they guide an electrical probe into the heart chambers and try
to locate the abnormal electrical pathway that creates the rapid rhythm.
They then use high frequency radio waves to do a controlled destruction of the
tissue so that the rapid heart rate can't occur. This is fairly common, I have had
many of my patients had this done.
And she doesn't have to stop BF with any of these drugs or for the procedure,
while she is having it done.
Write me if you have more questions.
