Carolyn, I think the answer to your question is IN your question.  If 3
other women  in her family have had abscesses NOT related to breastfeeding,
how will NOT breastfeeding prevent this?  She apparently still has the
possibility of this occurring and neither she nor baby will receive the
benefits of BF.  Also, does she realize that milk will come in whether or
not she nurses and that she also runs risk of mastitis/abscess during the
engorgement?  Just a few thoughts to pass along....
