You might want to contact Robin Ryder ([log in to unmask]). She has
excavated and written a fair amount on two such sites: one in Prince
William Co and the other in Prince George Co, Virginia. The latter site
formed the basis for her thesis some years back. These aren't the midwest,
but you may find some interesting points of comparison.
