A few months ago there was a study in the NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE
describing the use of EMLA cream for circumcisions, with very good results.
This is a local anesthesia cream used for injections, blood tests etc.,
containing Lidocain and Prilocain. I don't have the exact reference before
me, but it shouldn't be to hard to find. As far as I remember the cream is
applied half  an hour before the procedure (the same as for other uses). If
you need the reference, and can't find it, contact me, and I'll look it up.
