As I read all the congratulations and yippees about passing the exam and
getting to use the IBCLC credential, my heart goes to those who did not
pass the exam. I don't know how many didn't pass this year and I sincerely
hope everybody on Lactnet did pass - but in case there are a few of you who
didn't, please don't give up...allow yourself some space to deal with the
disappointment and sadness but continue to read, study, practice and try
again next year. Of my friends who have done poorly on certification
exams, it seems nerves and test taking anxiety gets in their way and blocks
their knowledge from coming forward.
We are all learning and studying and growing. Passing the exam is a step
on the path for some and a stumbling stone for others....pick yourself up,
brush off the disappointment and continue to learn as much as you can about
breastfeeding, moms and babies. They are worth your energy, love and
commitment.
Just my .02 worth,
Teri Shilling, MS, CD, FACCE, IBCLC who feels like I should be praying
every night that there's another system in place in 2002 so I won't have to
take that re-cert test.
