>I'm preparing for the Lactation exam and am curious if anyone has found the

Marilyn, "some" of us are familiar with this book you mentioned. In fact
many refer to it as "The Brown Bible." It will not only be beneficial for
study for the exam, but when you are a practicing LC you will refer to it
regularly--often at 3:00 A.M. when you can't sleep because of a tough case
you are dealing with. (Or am I the only one who does such things?) The
situation you are dealing with will most likely be in the book and will be
in a most-readable vocabulary.

Personally, I didn't find the study guide helpful, but others on this list
may have found it invaluable. We all have different ways of learning. I
talked with another LC for whom the guide was most helpful.

The way I studied for the exam was to take a given topic (like jaundice) and
read and take notes from Riordan and Auerback, then do the same with Ruth
Lawerence, LLLI's Breastfeeding Answer Book and past Journal of Human
Lactation editions. There was different information in each of them and I
could get an idea of the different ways of dealing with a subject. The JHLs
were good for current studies and perspectives.

There was a thread recently about what breastfeeding books to have in an
ideal library. Before writing this post I thought I would search for those
posts and pass along the suggestions. I sent: search library in lactnet.
Guess what I got. " 37985 matches. Only 100 will be shown." (Thank
Goodness!) The word "library" is in the Lactnet address of every post that
has been sent. Ha!
