Milk is donated to milk banks that belong to Human Milk Banking
Association of North America (HMBANA). The donors are screened verbally
and written forms are filled out, blood work is drawn for HIV, Hepatitis,
infectious diseases such as TB and STDs. The screening is thorough and
the milk is used only after all these tests are completed and negative.
The milk is given strictly as a donation. We never pay for milk from
donors. It is an unacceptable procedure from the eight milk banks that
are members of HMBANA, If there are any questions please feel free to
contact any of the milk banks that are a member of this group.
Information is also available from
Lois Arnold
Executive Director, HMBANA

Sandwich, MA 02563
This information may be used by any one who would like to forward it to
any other web site. It is important that people understand the
importance of the
HMBANA guidelines for he established and operation of a donor Human Milk
Bank. Not just anyone can start a milk bank. These are guidelines
established with the help of the CDC and FDA as controlling agents.
