Yes, she had held him before, but only after a 3-minute hand-wash (NICU
routine).  If I could remember her name, I could review her medical record
with more intelligence (perhaps) than I had 10 years ago.  All I remember
is that he was a tiny premie, adjusted age around 33-34 weeks, just
beginning to grow after a rocky first month, and this sepsis was a huge
set-back.  The MDs thought I was nuts for being concerned about her
mastitis, and her milk was not cultured.

Do we have an epidemiologist or infectious disease specialist among us
Lactnetters to answer the other excellent questions you ask?
