Susan Nachman-Srebnik's description of the "helpful" formula companies' 800
advice number, baby clubs and free cans of formula to new parents in Israel
reminded me of a wonderful analogy from a hospital-based maternity services
nurse here in Madison, WI a few years ago. She asked what we would think
if, at a weight-loss class, the teacher handed each participant a carton of
Haagen-Daas ice cream as they went out the door, "just in case" they had
trouble following the diet.
