I have a question I am posting for one of my off-line co-leaders. One of
our Group Moms is 4 mo. pregnant, and has a nursing 2 year old. The mom
had to go out of town for 2 weeks to care for her ailing mother, and was
wants to continue the nursing relationship after she gets back. Before she
left, we discussed with her the fact that her son might have weaned while
she was gone and might not return to the breast.

The mom's midwife said that she is concerned that after not nursing for 2
weeks, the mother's hormone levels will have changed, and that resuming
nursing might be harmful to the pregnancy. The midwife said that nursing
thru a pregnancy is okay because it exposes the baby/placenta to a
"constant" level of hormonal influence, but she thinks that not nursing for
2 weeks, then exposing the baby/placenta to a "sudden influx" of hormones
might be harmful.

Does anyone have any medical studies to help with this? The mom wants
something to take to her midwife.

Thanks in advance for your help with this!
