I should also add to my previous post that acidophilus and bifidus are
abundant in the intestines of breastfed babies.  I have added this
bacteria to all types of supplemental formulas that I have given my
children.  It helps prevent things like diarrhea, constipation, and
thrush, and also aids digestion.  I would not dream of NOT giving it to
my children.  I have also seen research which showed that adding this
bacteria to formula brought down the intestinal infection rates in
totally formula fed babies.
