Contact Brigham Young University, Provo; if anyone has
done these studies, it would be them. Most people outside the LDS
Church don't want to know about "Mormon" archaeology, they consider it
the equivalent of studying the artifacts at Waco or Guyana. And most of
them are too far outside the culture to correctly interpret the findings
within the social context anyway (i.e., they will only look at literature
published by outside "professionals" who have no idea what was really
going on). Most studies I have seen are too prejudice one way, not
enough insider input. The Beehive Bookstore outlets have many
publications done by the LDS Church on their history, including
biographies and photographs. Don't count on any first hand input to this
end, however, as most LDS people are reluctant to share personal
biographies and cherished family albums with scientists due to the idea
that much of their personal convictions and beliefs would be subject to
public display and ridicule. Also, records are available to the public at
large through the Genealogical Research Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
There should be an online access to this Center at the local LDS Stake
Center in Alaska. They will have hours there when the public can use
this research tool, and should be able to look in the phone book under
"Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" and call the listed number
for information.
