I apologize if this subject is too far out there for HISTARCH, but I guess
if we can discuss camels...
 
Does anyone have any references to ferrets (the European polecat, not the
indigenous black-footed ferret) being brought to the U.S. and used for
killing rats aboard ship and for hunting rabbits?  We're talkin' 17th and
18th century here...
