Hello! In our area most hospitals "allow" baby to stay in the room with
mother and father. Many new parents seem to be happy with this situation but
my new parents want more. Does anyone have any ideas for keeping baby in
mothers arms to bond and breastfeed. Under normal circumstances baby can be
observed and monitored from its parent's arms. New parents are having a hard
time refusing the nurses who feel the need to place the baby in the warmer to
do exams. They need to be empowered and realise the true value of this
time, they do not seem to "get it" until after it has happened.
I believe one of the nurses biggest issues with tending to the newborn is
mucous and the babies believed inability to suck while gummy, comments on
this would also be appreciated. Parents don't like the negative attitude
they recieve, the you are going to harm your baby and all we want to do is
help you comments. They get nasty looks and bad attitudes from staff.
I am aware of the Baby Frendly initative, many people in our area are working
on these changes, but clever ideas are needed now!!!
Thank you!
