For the techno-geeks out there (like me), pick up the June issue of
Pen Computing magazine. This issue has their second annual listing
of ruggedized computers. They list over 30 computers that were
designed specifically for field work, and list such (company
supplied) specifications as: drop test, sealing from dust & sand,
humidity ratings, temperature range, rain(inches/hour), rain(wind
speed), submersible, altitude, vibration, solar radiation, fungus,
etc., but no price. Of course, you could probably buy several
cheaper computers and a box of plastic bags for the price of one of
these ruggedized systems.
