>>>As part of my written exams at UCLA I plan to create a course syllabus for
a
North American archaeology class (upper division undergraduate course). I
have experience primarily in California and the US upper midwest, and I have
only a general understanding of the cultural history in other regions (i.e.,
Canada, Mexico, the Plains).

I have two requests:
        1) I would like suggestions for articles (especially syntheses)
or books from each region from which to start my search. As a part of my
assignment I will develop a bibliography (which the lectures will be based
upon), and I will have decide which readings would be appropriate for the
students themselves. This topic is obviously very broad, and I thought
regional specialists might be able to suggest key articles that would be a
good springboard into the archaeology of each region.

        2) I would also welcome comments as to how instructors organize
similar courses. Since the course will cover a wide variety of cultures and
time periods, it could be organized in different ways. I am curious which
formats seem to work well, and which ones the students seem to not enjoy.

I appreciate any help that you could provide. Please respond off-list. I
will provide a summary if people are interested.

I apologize if this is a repeated topic; I am a fairly new member to the list.

Thanks again!
