Roundup is a very safe broadspectrum herbicide that kills both grasses and
broadleaved plants. It has an LD 50 of 100 micrograms per honeybee in 48
hours, and an acute LD 50 of 5400 millegrams per kg of body weight on man, in
comparison Malathion insecticide is 4100 and Fluvalinate (Apistan)=20,000,
and Sevin is 4000..
There is little danger to man, wildlife or bees from a Roundup application
especially since it is applied as a diluted emulsifiable concentrate and
will not be tracked back to the hive like wettable powders or dusts.
One may be opposed to pesticides in general but if it wasn't for Apistan,
Terramycin etc we probably wouldn't have any bees.. The proper use of any
chemical is essential for the most benefit.
Roundup use along the highway to selectively kill unwanted weeds is an
ecologically sound practice and I for one would not worry about it
