Imitrex injectable has a very short 1/2 life, IMHO 24 hours of pump and dump
is excessive (why not nurse off the peak of the drug, inject right after
feeding). Even if she is taking the tablet form, it also has a very short
1/2 life. The short 1/2 life is why if you don't get relief within 1 hour
with the injection and 2 hours with the tablet, you can repeat the dose. it
is not real well adsorbed (sp) from the gi track so the tablet form doesnt
seem to help as well (and nowhere near as fast) as the injection for most of
my Rx patients.
one other thought on headaches is mom hunching over the baby. did she get
some type of spinal anesthistetic (sp). hunching over and having all the
muscles in your neck and upper back tighen up can lead to some super
headaches.
Hope these thoughts are helpful
