I just worked with a mom (in hospital) with a one day old infant, all
is going well. In the course of our conversation she shared the fact
that she has one spot on her nipple that bubbles out, over a period of
several weeks, filled with "white stuff", gets uncomfortable and she
then expresses the "white stuff" out. The "white stuff" is a stringy,
curly, cheesy like substance. She has been to a dermologist and her OB
to inquire about this repeated sequence (which has gone on for 8 years,
since the weaning of her first child!). Neither felt anything should
be done. In clarifying her describtion she said it is actually 2 small
blebs, sort of clefted in the middle. She showed me the spot where it
happens. Nothing there at this time in the way of blebs. What I could
observe, with the help of my handy/dandy 10X magnifyer was an enlarged
nipple pore with enlarged radiating lines surrounding it.

I asked her to please call me to observe when and if this occurs again.
Beyound that, my only thought is she has maintained lactation in the
lobe for 8 years with the stimulation of hand expression every few
weeks.

Any thoughts?
