Hi all,
I just have to put in my .02 here.
I understand that different cultures have their reasons for doing circs, but
I just don't understand why. There are no medical reasons for doing circs
anymore, at least not according to what I have read, and to what I have been
told by my Ped..
I did not have either on of my boys circumsised because when I found out how
they did it, I couldn't bear to put my newborn through that kind of pain. My
OB also told at that time (10 years ago) that there was no reason to do it.
It is my understanding, please correct me if I am wrong, that a hosp circ and
a Jewish circ are not only done differently in style (ceremony) but also in
how much of the foreskin is actually removed. It is also my understanding
that the Jewish style circ is not as traumatic as a hosp circ. Is my info
correct?
When I had my second son, it was a given that he would NOT be circumcised be
cause I didn't believe in it and my hubby wasn't circumcised. The only
reason he wasn't as a baby was because he was a premie and the nurses and Drs
told his parents that he didn't have a foreskin! They were wrong. Lucky for
my hubby though. BTW, my father-in-law didn't want him circ'ed either, but
would have had no choice back then. It was so routinely done that the
parents of boys weren't even asked!
I'm glad that at least parents are asked, now if they would just start saying
no more often!
Just my personal opinion!
Jay
