You DID have a tough day, and I hope now you've had a little cry and
analyzed things (probably to death, if you're like the rest of us<g>),
you'll realize that there was really little in what you said that should
have precipitated such a response from this mother. I figure she has some
pretty strong feelings about what she's doing, questioning the
appropriateness, etc. Doesn't mean you wouldn't have been a little more
diplomatic if you'd been "on top of things," but to my way of thinking, it
doesn't come anywhere near the kind of comments I've heard of that can leave
devastation in their wake (such as the classic, "You think you can
breastfeed with those?[small breasts]). Hang in there, get a good night's
sleep, and chalk it up to experience.
