The drugs that are usually used for bacterial endocarditis prophalxis
(amoxicillin for example) are routinely used in infants for ear infections
and other indications. While I certainly don't advocate the overtreatment of
infants with antibiotics, I see no reason for a mother to delay treatment she
might need becuase of the short term exposure of the infant to these
relatively benign drugs.  I think the mother getting a dental infection is
worse than the baby getting a diaper rash.
