I've been offline for a month or so, and I returned to find Dandra
Sauer's post re shoes. I don't know what the original question was,
but...this year we retrieved some mid-19th-c shoes from a well. The
costume interpreters specializing in shoes at Colonial Williamsburg
studied our artifacts and seemed extremely knowledgable about the
varieties of shoes, their construction techniques, etc. Living
history types are fonts of such knowledge. If someone needs to be
puit in touch with CW shoe experts, contact me by email.
