The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, Corpus Christi, Texas
has an opening for an Archaeologist.
 
Minimum qualifications: Doctor of Philosophy degree in Anthropology, or
other directly related field, and a minimum of five years professional
experience in a museum or comparabile facility and/or five years
teaching experience at the college or university level; or any
equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.  Some
marine archaeology experience preferred.  Must be able to pass scuba
training/certification.
 
Essential duties: Under the direction of the Museum Director and
Museum's Head Curator, the Archaeologist is directly responsible for the
operation of archaeology programs, exhibits, and archival holdings of
the Museum as they relate to archaeological holdings.  Responsible for
cataloguing, curating, and conserving the 1554 shipwreck collection,
marine and terrestrial archaeological collections.  Conducts and
oversees research on marine and terrestrial archaeological collections.
Publishes and disseminates information pertaining to the collections
through scholarly publications, academic presentations, and public
programs, including school groups.  May be responsible for dividing
duties to serve on a part time basis as an instructor at a public
university.  Drives city vehicle to locations in support of museum
education and research activities at terrestrial archaeological sites.
May need to accomplish excavation of shipwreck sites.
 
Attendance requirements: A 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, 8
am-5pm.  May occasionally be required to work weekends and holidays,
including occasional Tuesday night duties.
 
Licenses and Certifications: A valid Class "C" driver's license at time
of application and a valid Class C Texas driver's license at time of
hire.  Certified scuba diver when required.
 
Selection Process: Panel review
 
Salary range: $2401 - $3375 monthly
