Any advice? Mother tandem feeding 7mo and 2yo has had lump in breast for
some months - being monitored. Surgeon wants to do a biopsy and possible
lumpectomy in 8 weeks and wants her fully weaned (both breasts I assume) by
then. He says the milk will cause the wound to get infected!!!! She was
wanting to wean the toddler now anyway, but not the baby. I have suggested
a second opinion as we have a local surgeon who is more open to operating on
lactating breasts. Am I correct that the wound will leak (anti-infective)
milk, may take longer to totally heal over (???) but there is no need to
wean from this breast or any other. Has anyone worked with mothers in this
situation?

She also wants advice on how to wean the toddler, who can't bear to see her
younger sibling having something she is not. Suggestions? This mother is
deaf so I am working through her very supportive husband, so far on the
phone but I will see them next week. He told me that both kids both "have
to" co-sleep with them because she couldn't hear them if they woke. What a
wonderful excuse! I assume he has the common paternal nocturnal deafness
syndrome so he couldn't hear them either.
