The latest "Archaeology" magazine (vol 48 no. 6) has a great article on toxic
honey. The cover of the magazine has a photo of a mummy portrait (another
interesting article). The seven page article recounts unintentional and
intentional consumption of honey noted in greek and roman classics and in
more modern times. It seems that in the 18th century, toxic honey was added
to alcholic beverages to give you a better 'buzz'.
