Aida,
Is it possible that they used forceps or that the baby had a lot of molding
at birth? Occasionally these babies have a tight mouth-- which often results
in those ridges you described and the subsequent cracks. It usually resolves
on its own by day 5-7. Increasing the flow ( start MER before latch or SNS)
at the breast and using techniques to relax the mouth will help.
