The "interesting" case I mentioned yesterday deserves an update. This baby
went in for hernia repair today at U of Chicago Hopsitals. Mother
breastfed baby at 5AM, baby went into surgery at 7:30AM and did great! Mom
and babe were home by noon (with nearly 2 hr drive included). But, when
surgeon saw baby's tongue, he OFFERED to clip the tongue. Mother had not
ASKED! Well, she said, go ahead (is now wonderfing if she will get a bill
for same since she did not request it), so baby came up with double hernia
repair AND clipped tongue tie. Interesting comment from surgeon was, "it
doesn't usually matter, but as long as it is there and we are going in..."
I was astounded. He also implied it didn't matter re: feeding (and in this
case, he was right; baby has thrived with no difficulties), but I wonder if
he is aware that it can be a problem.

Mother and baby doing well. Baby sleepy, but has nursed several times since
surgery with no difficulties.
