For those of you who asked, here is the reference to my reality sheet re:
when to expect babies to sleep through thenight.

MOTHERING, No. 35, pp.98-99, Spring 1985 Called "An Informal Sleep Survey".

It showed the following

                Birth-6 mo 6-12 mo 1-2 yrs 2-3 yrs
wake 3-6 times 70% 70% 57%
wake 1-2 times 64%

Sleep max 2 hrs 74%
Sleep up to 4 hrs 48% 38%
Sleep up to 6 hrs 41%
Sleep up to 8 hrs 41%

(highest averages given only; article has more detail)

Sleeping through the night is defined as 5 hrs or longer in a row

Duration means baby woke after (say, 2 hrs), not that s/he only slept 2 hrs
at night. Clearly shows that most young children and babies wake more than
once at night, but then most adults do, too. Remember Jim McKenna's videos
at last year's ILCA Conference? Most of us are not aware that we waken,
but we do (unless pregnant and we have to respond to bladder screams!)

Anyway, check out the article. It is excellent for countering what lots of
OTHERS tell parents to expect or teach tehir babies to do!

Enjoy!
