It's not an archeological report but you might want to take a look at:
"Glittering Misery: Dependents of the Indian Fighting Army" by Patricia Y.
Stallard (1992, University of Oklahoma Press, Norman). The book contains an
interesting chapter on laundresses associated with military posts.
