In 1985 I hooked up my Canon Videocamera and MacPlus via MacVision and
after some experimentation derived quite acceptible artifact
illustrations. I have also found my 1600 dip scanner (La Cie
Silverscanner II) to produce excellent drawings of obsidian and basalt
chipped stone artifacts, 19th century ceramics, and other relatively flat
objects. However, I am looking around again for the latest options in
video interfacing for this purpose. I have a 48M Quadra 950 with 1G
on-line storage. I looked at the new Apple camera, but it focuses 4 feet
to infinity and hence is useless for scientific illustration. Are there
any other cameras which connect via serial port? Is my only choice to go
with a video board? I have a Canon LX1 videocamera which focus down to
contact with the lense. Which video board will best fit my system
configuration. Instead of getting a board, should I just get the new AV
systems from Macintosh?
 
What are others using presently? What do you plan on using? Suggestions?
