         I agree with Mary Ellen regarding the proliferation of "requests
    for info. . .".  This is also a periodic problem on other lists of
    which I am a member.  I really feel that someone should demonstrate
    that s/he has gone to some effort to research a topic already, before
    issuing a blanket request to the list.   I wonder if someone (i.e.
    Anita) did a frequency distribution of these requests, would they
    correspond to the academic year in any meaningful way (e.g. midterms,
    finals, term papers)?  BTW, making such a request in all caps is
    definitely not the way to go.

    PS:  About a year ago, on another list, I encountered a posting from a
    non-traditional student at a smaller university requesting info.  She
    began w/ a paragraph describing the current status of her knowledge of
    the subject and the ways she had sought to increase that.  I had no
    trouble emailing her 2 sets of info I had in my files.
