FIELD SCHOOL AT CASTELL HENLLYS, WALES AND CLONMACNOISE, IRELAND
 
An intensive Field School based at Castell Henllys Iron Age fort and=20
Romano-British farmstead,and nearby historic farm, with two weeks survey=20
at the major Early Christian and medieval monastic
complex of Clonmacnoise, will take place from July 8 to August 19.=20
ONLY 12 PLACES FOR STUDENTS ARE AVAILABLE.
 
Participation involves:
 
* Data capture - Excavation: on the Iron Age, Romano-British or historic si=
te.=20
Training in basic excavation, recording including drawing plans and profile=
s,=20
preliminary processing of finds and environmental samples.
 
* Data capture - Survey: at Clonmacnoise. Surface and geophysical survey wi=
th=20
a range of instruments, also recording of monuments including gravestones.
 
* Data analysis: based at Castell Henllys, students work on a project deriv=
ed=20
from and building on their earlier fieldwork.
 
The project is under the overall direction of Dr Harold Mytum,=20
of the Department of Archaeology, University of York, and receives=20
University of York credits (equivalent to one full term).
 
Tuition fees =A3950 (ca. $1450);=20
Accommodation (camp site in Wales, house in Ireland), meals,=20
on-site insurance, local travel) =A3500 (ca.$750).
