Dear Colleagues,

The 2018 meeting of the SECHSA has been scheduled for Charleston, SC on *August
10-11*. The conference will be held at Charles Town Landing State Historic
Site on Friday and The Charleston Museum on Saturday. Your local hosts
(Martha Zierden, David Jones, and Katherine Pemberton) and the SECHSA
committee (Natalie Adams Pope, Carl Steen, and Tom Beaman), plus assorted
friends and colleagues, are planning two full days of papers, tours, and
socializing.

The Conference theme is “Defense and Trade,” a statement that describes
colonial Charleston’s struggle to balance a solidly-defended harbor against
a town open and accessible for trans-Atlantic trade. The tours explore the
defenses of the city. Papers may focus on any or all aspects of this broad
theme.

The Call for Papers is open, with title and abstracts due by July 1.

For more information and to register, visit our website at sechsa.org
