It may be easier to rent a cargo van. I saw a van for $400 for 4 days local and mileage restriction. 
if you drive your own truck consider this: A $40,000 truck is good for 200,000 miles, that's $0.2 per mile, times 2000 miles = $400.
if the van breaks down on the trip you call them.
They do have also one-way rentals. If you get a one-way and fly down you save one hotel stay and the trip gets a lot easier.
I don't know about being with the bees in the van in case of an accident though. Any thoughts?
