Peter, can you please give more details.  I followed your advice, and
 experimented with this last summer, covering the lid with 1/8" wire mesh
to prevent the bees from removing the crystals.  The thymol barely
evaporated at all, and I obtained very little mite setback.

Is it necessary for the bees to be able to pick up the thymol crystals and
physically carry them down through the combs?
