a Charles Linder snip..
I still have a lot of that original foundationless comp in the hives. Easy to spot. Not attached at the sides and bottom usually.
my question..
I was wondering Charles when you did this experiment where in the hive the foundation was placed when being drawn? And what time of the season did you perform this experiment?
I have never noticed this here whenever the frame/foundation is place above the brood nest and the hive in question is being fed at least at a moderate level (a deep over a deep). I do on occasions witness what you describe as happening here but quite typically the frame/foundation are placed towards the bottom board and the hive is not in a regular feeding regime.
For us sideliners there is a good market for comb honey but I do this here in shallow frames with plain foundation and no support wires.
