I am sure that someone has a better. more complete, and more scientific answer to your question, Charles, but the short answer is that the chemicals in bees wax are not LOCKED (my word, not yours) in the beeswax. They do leach out of the wax into whatever is in the cell. That's the explanation I got when I had Choumophas and Choumophas oxon showing up in pollen sampled from a hive which had not been exposed to Checkmite in over ten, and maybe 15, years.
Choumophas oxon being the degraded form of Choumophas.
