Is this good science? 

I would ask,  why the need to feed laced syrup at those levels when field research from your areas do not show contamination at that level,  or sustained?   
While many hives do indeed get exposed, its usually a very short window and cleaner pollen and nectar are available very quickly to dilute the effect.

IMO,  its like being a drunk,  being a alcoholic is bad for you no doubt,  but an occasional night of excess is not a big issue.
