Call for papers for a session at the 2016 Annual Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology in Washington, DC!

Work, Workers, and Workplaces in the Anthropocene: Insights on the Modern World from Industrial, Historical, and Contemporary Archaeology

Timothy James Scarlett and Samuel Sweitz, chairs.

Papers in this session examine the social, technological, economic, and ecological effects of industrialization and Capitalism through more than two centuries of globalization’s quickening. Using various multi-sited and multi-scaled approaches, historical, industrial, and contemporary archaeological studies explore aspects of the diverse social, economic, and environmental changes that differentiate the Modern age. The session will conclude with a discussion of the diverse ways archaeology contributes to dialogues concerning the legacies and challenges confronting contemporary industrial and post-industrial communities.

Please send proposed papers to Tim ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Sam ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>) for consideration before Wednesday, June 24! Registration of accepted papers must be complete by June 30.

Thanks,
Tim
