I think this is unrealistic: beekeepers are not a privileged class any more than golfers are (an oblique reference to cosmetic use of pesticides).

I think that is a little unfair on beekeepers.  Golfers clearly have little concern for the environment when they demand huge areas of nothing but grass to pursue their hobby.  Most beekeepers on the other hand are usually very concerned, not just for their chosen hobby or profession, but for a whole range of insects from which they make no profit at all - they are genuinely interested in the environment.
