I think that weak hives sometimes make more propolis than healthy hives,
not for any health reasons, but for its other major use:
propolis (gate of the city, in latin) is the entrance defense.  The
entrance is adjusted in size for both temperature and robbing.  Weak hives
need more defense from robbing.   Some weak hives need no entrance reducer
because they have made it themselves.   Some also completely shut off the
top entrance and we unblock it at wrapping (wisely or not, maybe they
blocked it for good reason).
