didn't look like they had easy cleaning access?

Dirt is an issue as it reduces the amount of light getting to the panel.
Our local installers offer a cleaning service.  Our panels here are ground
mounted so are relatively easy to clean - but the bee poop is hard to remove
(bit like trying to get it off your car).  We have roof mounted panels on
another house, but those do not have bees near them, so we only have to
remove bird poop from time to time, although of this most is washed off by
heavy rain.  Rain does not seem to remove bee poop!
