In June of last year a house in my town exploded. Pieces of the house were
found a mile away, the insulation came down like snow. I live 1.5 miles
from there and my house shook and it was really loud. Pictures here:

A beekeeper I know lives on Balsam Lane the street right behind the house
that exploded, she had 2 hives of bees. There is a map you can click on at
the above link and you will see Balsam Lane. The roof of her house popped
off, it went up in the air a few feet and landed back on the house. The
hives held together, they were behind her house so may be the house blocked
some of the shock. The beekeeper called me the next day asking how this
would effect her bees, of course I had no idea. The day after she called me
both hives of bees swarmed, they did not have queen cells and never made a
new queen. The swarms did not stick around, they came out of the hive and
kept going. She requeened what was left of the hives and they seemed
content. She has already loss a hive and is waiting to see the other makes
it through the winter. This may have been from lack of being able to care
for the bees her family live in a hotel for months, the house was a total
loss and they are rebuilding.

I am sure those bees felt the shock, whether the "heard" anything who knows.

That is my loud noise bee story,

Karen T-K
