I just followed up on a baby who is now 7 wk. He was observed by the LC at
hospital and me to have a tongue tie. Mom was experiencing soreness, but
her pediatrician felt it was not a concern. So it was not clipped.
I called today to see if the soreness caused her to stop bf. She is
still bf, and the soreness only lasted a few weeks. However, he is still
nursing q 2.5 hr, even at night. We discussed some strategies to get him
to go a longer stretch at night.
My afterthought: Could it be that he is not able to remove milk very
efficiently, so quits eating, or his suck is not sufficiently strong so
that it does not cause her to incr supply? This is a gravida 3, nursed 2
girls for at least 4 mo before him. Wt gain is adequate per mom, though he
has not been weighed since 2 wk old.
Wise sisters, is there something more to this? I'll call back in 2 wk to
check of 2 mo exam since he is not our pt here at our practice.
